History & Future

First developed during World War II, Kaitaia Airport has long served as the northernmost aviation gateway for Aotearoa.

Kaitaia Airport is proudly owned by the Te Runanga O Ngaitakoto Trust. The Trust has engaged the Far North District Council under a long-term lease to operate the airport to serve the Te Hiku community. Council in turn has engaged Far Norh Holdings Limited to provide airport management services, ensuring that operations are maintained and day to day airport operations are carried out safely and efficiently.

With partnership at its heart, Kaitaia Airport is building on its history to deliver a safe, modern and connected future for the Far North.
